Holiday survival products

Holiday survival beauty products

As much as I love holidays at the coast, it does not do my skin and complexion very well. I tend to break out in spots. My hair goes frizzy! My skin also burns immediately. I go blood red, and after that my skin starts peeling. This year I only spend two hours in the sun. I had sunscreen on my face and arms, but thought that my legs would be okay without sunscreen. Big mistake... (Don't you think I should know by now?) I am still peeling two weeks later!

Little Miss also struggles with her eczema, and we had to look after her feet very well. It dries up underneath her toes especially, and cracks open in sores. We still haven't found the magic formula to take it away completely, but the Oh So Heavenly Cream has been a lifesaver!

Holiday blues after a week at the beach

We had the most wonderful week at the beach the previous week! We are lucky to have been able to go. I do love a beach holiday the most!

My brother joined us at the Kwazulu-Natal South Coast from Seattle. He is chasing a bit of sun as it is winter on that side and very cold now! It was lovely to have him there as well!

Little Miss had a great time! I asked her about her highlights. She only regrets that she did not get enough time in the waves, because it was windy at first! Swimming in the sea is the best! She also loved doing flips in the swimming pool with her dad and on her own. Also getting a tracing pad to do her sketches from her uncle.
(It's the little things that count!)

The Aloes

I know I should not be complaining, but it does not feel right to be back at the grind and working just before Christmas. Most people are only going on holiday now or over the Christmas/New Year period!

The only way I know now of how to cope with holiday blues is to page through our photos! I will be beach-spamming my Instagram account until the blues go away! (Sorry! Not sorry!)

Are you going on holiday, and where are you going?
What kind of holiday do you love the most?
Do you prefer to stay home during the holidays?

Reflection on a holiday

This past week has been an absolute breather, and we skipped some of the winter chill in Gauteng.

I have decided again that I want to stay in Umdloti, forever!, but here we are back to start the hectic race again tomorrow... (Sad face!)

Our Little Missy had her best holiday yet! Before she was not impressed with the sand and the sea, and she wanted to stay in her dad's arms.
This year she loved it. Much, much more... (Although Dad had his share in having to stay very close!)

She got a roll the first day, and with high tide she was still watching the waves coming in...
But for the rest she had no stop on her!
She wanted to swim, and play on the beach, and play with the Frisbee, and build sand castles, and walk on the rocks, and watch the little creatures of the rock pools...

We went to the harbour as well, and got a ride in the Durban Harbour among the huge cargo ships.
I was very impressed that we could go the Wilson's Wharf and find a boat for a ride on a Thursday! Definitely a place to go!

Afterwards the Little One told us that she found it a bit boring... I think she felt a little bit sea sick because she was looking too much at the waves. But we loved the half hour ride, which seems more than enough to get enough photos, and getting some important information about the size of those cargo ships! (We had a very talkative captain...)
The ships are BIG up close!

I definitely want to go again. There's Ballito, and Umhlanga to explore some more. Not that there's not enough to do in Umdloti...

There's Cafe Java for lovely breakfasts and wraps, and The Bush Tavern for great seafood and Bush Bunnies. We still need to check out the other restaurants. Not enough money time!

The Galley in Ballito

We love The Galley in Ballito, with its view and it's food!
We went there twice during the holiday.

Movie Clip Monday #26 - Toddler and the waves. Finally!

Yes, we did it!
By the end of the holidays the Toddler had her feet in the waves.

(Sorry about the sound quality. There was a strong wind blowing on the beach.)

The Toddler and the sea

Two years ago we had a toddler who was not impressed with the sand and the sea...

We now have a toddler who plays in the sand on the beach, but she still do not want to go near the ocean.

Only when safely in the arms of her dad!

It is an improvement, at least!

We hear it is extremely cold in Gauteng, so we are very pleased to be here.

There is a mean wind blowing here, but it still is not the icy cold of the weather that we have left behind...

Missing the student back at university!

Cheating the rat race

Going on holiday in the middle of the year feels like cheating! We skipped a week of rushing around, working AND the cold weather. We skipped winter!

I definitely recommend it! From now on it’s going to be on our list of yearly to-dos!

It was very depressing to drive back into the smog and the winter grey after the green and warmth of the coast!

We eventually got Mieka to put her toe in the sand on the last day... BIG milestone for our little girl. Notice that her feet were firmly planted on the sheet of the tent. 7 days. She is a cautious little one! Smile!

Now back to work! I am sitting at my desk again. Thinking of the beach....
Enjoy your Monday, you all!

FlogYoBlog Friday

Working with the toddler and her distrust of the sea and sand... Getting there!
Brenda at Mummy-time is doing it again, of course!
Thanks, Brenda. You are totally awesome! Please go and check out her rules. Please play along, if you dare!

We have signed off from life for a whole week (sand and sea and beach holiday). We are lucky, I know!

Enjoy your Friday! (Big smile!)

The toddler is not impressed with the sand and the sea

The toddler was not impressed with her first visit to the beach. She did not want to stand on the sand. She screamed when we brought her near the sea and the waves. She did not want to play with her buckets and spades... We had to pick her up and carry her on the beach. Nothing else!

We were so excited to show her the big blue and the endless sand...

The curse of urban dwelling! She prefers a sand pit at the crèche, or a swimming pool. (Sigh)

Tomorrow we will try again. We will try to get her to get used to nature. It is a bit overwhelming for a little one.

In the meantime: It is lovely here at the coast near Durban. We are walking around with summer clothes. We know it is freezing in Johannesburg. Best place to be at the moment!
