Aunty Merle (Marc Lottering character) |
Aunty Merle the Musical is lots of laughs, some crying, family dynamics mixed with rich cultural diversities. Social commentary and politics are lightly interwoven, and we walk out of the Mandela Theatre with a beat in our step and a lighter look at our social political landscape. Four Fleur Du Cap Theatre nominations are well deserved.

We went to see the show on Sunday. It's three hours of absolute entertainment. (There's a break in-between). The show boasts 22 original songs, with lyrics by Marc Lottering and Tarryn Lamb. The musical direction is by Alistair Izobel and choreography by Grant Van Ster. The cast is some of our best actors, actresses, singers and dancers. Most of them can do ALL; act, sing and dance! The voices are phenomenal!
The cast, the performances, the storyline, the voices 👌🏻- An absolute blast@joburgtheatre 🎭#MerleInJozi#AuntyMerleTheMusical #JoburgTheatre pic.twitter.com/tyjIaTMqSP— Karen du Toit (@karentoittoit) February 3, 2019
Aunty Merle The Musical will still be running at the Mandela Theatre at Joburg Theatre until 3 March.
It's a great date idea, especially with Valentine's day around the corner.
Note that patrons will still be getting a 20% discount for shows until 7 February.
