Easter fun for the kids at Silverstar

We had a fantastic time at Silverstar on Saturday. They have a great line-up for families during Easter, from 19 March to 3 April.

There are the kid's fun on the Square, with jumping castles, a kiddies' train, a Maze and the interactive water fountains. The Easter Bunny are going to make an appearance each day, with movies on the Square, and an Easter Market.

The best of all! The entertainment on the Square is FREE! 

It is wise to also take an extra set of clothing and a towel. No kid can resist the water fountains, as well as the jumping castle with the slide into water!

So much fun!

Little Miss got me to go along into the Wind Castle-thing (see below)! It is very safe, and even the littlest enjoy going up... and DOWN! And up and DOWN again!

There's also The Magic Company with arcade games, Laser Tag and Ten Pin Bowling that keeps them entertained. And movies! (Not for free!)

The Nickelodeon Festival was a festival FESTIVAL! #NickFest

The Nickelodeon Festival at Silverstar over the weekend was a total blast! 

Little Miss could not believe how many cool things there were to do, ...and see! 

The queues were long, but somehow they fit us all in!

It's great that it was sold out shows for the whole weekend! The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust definitely got a great boost with 10% of the ticket sales and the celebrities being slimed. 

If they plan to do it again, we will definitely go again!

We avoided the big slime pit. The children could jump in there as well! 

I take my hat off to celebrities such as Darren Simpson, Proverb and Sizwe Dhlomo who were brave enough to get slimed!

A Nickolodeon Festival coming to Silverstar in June #NickFest

Nickelodeon (DStv channel 305) is teaming up with Tsogo Sun and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust to stage its first ever family-centric festival, NickFest, in Johannesburg at The Globe at Silverstar on Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 June.

Nickelodeon has been a firm and "save" (with regards the content) favourite in our house since Little Miss was small. She loves all the characters!

This festival partners with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust by way of The Celebrity Slime Challenge! Well-known celebrities will get doused in slime to raise funds for the charity, which is currently constructing the second paediatric hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg.

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital began construction in April 2014, and is targeted to open in the second half of 2016. The Trust continues to fundraise towards its R1 billion target, of which R620 million has been raised. NickFest will donate 10% of the ticket funds to the Trust.

NickFest will showcase live music from SA A-listers, character shows (at 10:00 am and 14:00 pm) and appearances by Nickelodeon superstars SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There will be designated activities for pre-schoolers, primary school kids, tweens and teens. The best of all: There will lots of Nickelodeon’s trademark slime – tons and tons of gooey green stuff…in the awesome Slime Area! (I don't know if it's good news to Moms?)

Tickets have already gone on sale from 11 May via Computicket, priced R110 pp (children under two for free)

Stunning Tutankhamun - His Tomb and his Treasures exhibition in South Africa

Tutankhamun - His Tomb and his Treasures

We were blown away by the Tutankhamun Expo at Silverstar. This international exhibition is the first time in Africa!
It is really worth to go for adults and kids!

The exhibition illustrates the fascinating story behind the exploration and excavation by British archaeologist, Howard Carter of the Tutankhamun Tomb, the history of Tutankhamun, and the culture of ancient Egypt.
It takes the visitor from the beginning of the search for Tutankhamun and how Carter found the tomb. It unpacks the tombs in the exhibition one by one. It is totally fascinating, and afterwards when we as family compared notes, we found that some of us missed some of the details.

I am only sharing some of my photos here, since it does not convey the splendour and intricacies of the exhibit. You really need to see it to appreciate it.

Make sure that the kids get the kiddies headsets. We did not know to ask for it, but Little Miss seemed fine with listening to the adult version.

I want to go back for more, especially since we spent too short a time in the first exhibition space and could not go back when we realised we missed some of the exhibits.

Kids under six go in for free, and luckily Little Miss just made it before her birthday next week!

This is a great activity for the holidays!

Father Christmas lost his head

We went to check out the Bavarian Winter Christmas Festival at Silverstar Casino and Hotel on Saturday. It was on for the whole weekend.

One of the main reasons why we went, is because I saw advertised that there would be a Father Christmas. I know Little Missy would have loved to see him now in the middle of the year.

There was food... (And cheeses)

And lots of German beers...

And music....

And funny rides...

And a birthday girl!

But we could not find the Christmas Father!

I went and asked when he was coming.

I was told that he had "lost his head" the previous evening!

I don't know what that means? 

Maybe too many German beers?

We were not that impressed with the whole festival. 

Something to do with lots of drunk people...

Maybe it is better at night when you can see the Christmas Lights?

And maybe it is better when Father Christmas is around?
