A party at the Color Café

Little Missy was invited to a party at the Color Cafe in Hyde Square.
It is such a lovely venue for a girl's party.

All set for ceramic painting
The girls started out with enthusiasm painting their fairies, but it dwindled after they realised that each colour had to be repainted three times!
That's where the mothers stepped in. (With much more enthusiasm!)
It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning, while the girls had a ride on their scooters and played with their balloons.

This was a lot of fun for the girls, and Little Missy can't wait to get her painted fairy. It needs to be collected afterwards.

An app that makes us smile - Petting Zoo by Christoph Niemann

Petting Zoo by Christoph Niemann
(Screen print)

We have been playing now for over a week with these 21 imaginative creatures of Petting Zoo from author and illustrator Christoph Niemann.

I can't remember where I saw the link, but it mentioned specifically that it is now also available in the South African iTunes store. There is a fee of R15 involved, which is totally worth it!

It is a combination of quirky animals mixed with sound effects and music.

As soon as I think we have found all the ways the animals can move or react, Little Missy makes a new discovery.

You can also spend hours with the music incorporated in some of the animations. The crocodile loses his teeth to the most beautiful sounds, and the octopus can be played like a harp.

It is fun, and I am sure it will keep a little one as occupied as an eighty year old!
Very smart!

A quiet weekend... The best!

Puzzle building
We had a very quiet and relaxed weekend, without having to go somewhere, or to do anything!

Breakfast at Second Cup and photo taking
I am ordering some more of these this year!
Nothing that restores and gives so much peace than a bit of quiet family time!

The Little Missy spent a lot of time on her art works, and she came up with this all on her own.
She ordered me each time to take a photograph (where we usually have to beg for her to pose for a photo).

I added the second title. Maybe we have a budding artist in our midst?

Deluge of sketches

Nowadays we are getting a large flood of sketches e-v-e-r-y day by our 4-year old.
The deluge are getting larger and larger...

We are also getting in lots of trouble if she finds one of the sketches still at home!
It should have been on our walls at work, already!
(I hope she forgets how much she gives us, because the space at work is limited.)

Dad gets twice as much of the craft than I do. She sometimes gives me a sketch, to minutes later changing her mind, and giving it to her dad as well.
(I don't know why? It also does not help to feign being sad about not getting as much pictures as her dad....)

I am so glad I have found the Artkive app, because I photograph it all, and I can share some of the sketches with the family as well.

They are doing self-image and body at school, and I presume that's why we are seeing so much of the stick figures and self-portraits.

Archiving all the art

A toddler is a daily creative machine of art!

I found a great app to store all the art that's constantly being created!

I really want to keep everything, but it becomes just too much.

It is a good idea to photograph it, but with my artkive I am also able to title and date the photographs and share it from there with friends and family.

And it is stored in an archive of art!
I "Like it!

I do not get paid to say this!

The best: the app is free!

Taking control of murder hour

It has been very difficult each afternoon to drive home with a toddler that goes ballistic in the back seat!
I know!
I know!
She's tired and she wants attention and the last 30 minutes strapped in a back seat does not make it any easier...

Reluctant Mom writes much more eloquently about the subject, but we all know what I am talking about.

By the time I reach home, I am ready to commit a murder.
And dying from shame, because my colleague who drives home with me does not have the same discipline strategies...

Yesterday I told her dad to just go and fetch her from the back seat, because I have had my share...

We banned "kindertjies" (children's programmes) for the night, and today it went much better already!

But we are not totally there yet, and there is another ban in place tonight!

It is not such a bad thing, because she has to find other creative ways to keep busy...

The Toddler is down at 8

We had some sleeping issues during the holidays last week.  As soon as the regular routine gets shifted or moved along by a couple of minutes hours, everything goes out of the window!

No new revelation here! We all know it! It is our own doing (as parents!) when we let it slip... We were driving around again on Monday night while she was full of beans, singing songs...  While we were feeling like zombie parents driving ourselves into a coma...

Luckily when she went back to day care this week she was extremely tired, and it is now the second night that she went to bed at eight AND fell asleep immediately... Back-to-reality does have its merits for tired parents!

The photos are evidence of some of the late night art being done by the Toddler last week. She starts by cutting up pictures from magazines and making collages. Even the dices got a place on the collage. I think it is pretty nifty because she does it all on her own!
(The same as the collage on her sketch pad as well.)

Happy sleeps!

Movie Clip Monday #8 – Firsts: cutting with scissors

I showed the Toddler how to work with scissors over the weekend, and she is fascinated. She is able to occupy herself for hours, trying to get the scissors to cut the paper. A future scrapper at work? ;-)

It is fairly “safe” scissors, because it’s got rounded edges, and not very sharp. But we let down our guard for just a minute, and there it was: Scissor scratches on our table! Thank goodness it’s a very old table on its way out...

Linking up with Tasneem at MumDrum with her Movie Clip Mondays. (Thanks Tasneem!)
