Skating for the first time

We only discovered the skating rink at Cradlestone Mall this last weekend. We have never introduced Little Miss to skating before this. Although she has nagged us about it. (I don't know why! I used to love to go ice-skating with my eldest.)

The skating is done on a plastic layer which made it the best way to start learning how to skate. There are no wet clothes, and it feels a bit less slippery. (Unfortunately the Skating Rink was only functioning until the 19 July.)

Next time we will be going to the real ice-rink.

A certificate of bravery for a first haircut

Little Missy had her first haircut on Friday last week. She is 4 years and 4 months.

We love her long hair, but it has become unmanageable, with lots of tears when trying to comb out the tangles each day.
I have to plait her hair each night before she goes to bed. If not, we have to get rid of lots of mouse nests (as we call it) in the mornings.

We walked into Maddy Magoo (by Kids Emporium) on the West Rand (at Papachinos), and they could help us immediately.

We decided on the first cut haircut package, which includes a certificate of bravery, a lock of hair, and before and after photos on a disc. I am a sucker, but it is really very cute!

Sitting upright got a bit of an ordeal!

The certificate of bravery should go to the hairdresser! The hairdresser had to go the extra mile to keep her sitting still, and that was only for a straight line cut! Also for taking photos. We got a disc of 15 photos, also one of her standing with mom and dad, with the new haircut!

The certificate should also go to the parents; for being a bit emotional about the first haircut and the first locks lying on the floor.

She looks grown-up already!

Her hair looks thicker, and it is definitely a better experience in the mornings!
It was worth it!

Dream Circus – The Toddler’s first

The Circus is as exciting as ever. A circus, called Dream Circus, parked on local school grounds here, and we got the whole deal with popcorn and lights!

It was the Toddler’s first! We struggled to get her off her chair in the beginning because she was apparently under the impression that it is “show” enough to be able to sit on her own chair – happily clapping along.

When we got her standing to be able to see, the clown came too near to our side, and she was not impressed with him for the rest of the show...  I can’t blame her. The clown was scary to me too...

Luckily Circus does not mean big animals anymore. It is only dogs, doves and a really big snake. The acrobats and the trapeze artists are very good.

The highlight of the show was the highlight – the strong man act: throwing and catching of three heavy heavy copper (?) balls.  A muscle-builder from the audience struggled to pick up the balls, where two of them were picked up by Mr Strong Man’s pinkie.  It was announced as the Award Winner of the International Circus Star Award.

Entertainment at its best! I will definitely take the Toddler again!

Movie Clip Monday #8 – Firsts: cutting with scissors

I showed the Toddler how to work with scissors over the weekend, and she is fascinated. She is able to occupy herself for hours, trying to get the scissors to cut the paper. A future scrapper at work? ;-)

It is fairly “safe” scissors, because it’s got rounded edges, and not very sharp. But we let down our guard for just a minute, and there it was: Scissor scratches on our table! Thank goodness it’s a very old table on its way out...
