A new hairstyle at Maddy Magoo Fourways

There's a new Maddy Magoo in Fourways at The Gantry. They have been in business for three months now, and apparently it is going well with business. I got a free hair cut voucher from Kids Emporium who runs the joint Maddy Magoo Salon. Little Miss has been growing her hair ever since she got the fringe and haircut in July at Maddy Magoo, Bedford Square. She loved her fringe and her haircut, but she also loves hair styles with longer length hair. She do not want to cut it at this stage.

I phoned Jackie at Maddy Magoo Fourways, and she was more than willing to change the free haircut to a free hairstyle. We saw her own hairstyle on Instagram, and Little Miss got very excited!

A transformation happened. A change of hairstyle is just as good as a holiday!

Age and bad hair days increasing exponentially

Before

I do not want to complain about getting older...  (Its a pointless exercise!)

It is just a fact of life! Getting old presents itself exponentially in so many ways! I have just so much more compassion about all the times my grandmother used to complain about the age spots and lost teeth and...
At that stage I had an attitude: "Deal with it, Grandma! You ARE old! That's life!"
(It's coming back to haunt me! Every dog gets it's day! My Ouma must be smiling right now!)

I have battling the Grey since my twenties, and by now I cannot go through a whole month before I have to wear my favourite caps or scarves!
I HAVE to colour every month!

Bad hair days are definitely increasing with age!

That's why it was such a treat last weekend after I had won a cut and blow at Ultimate Hair by Judy through Wenchy's Facebook Page.
The whole family did not go to the hairdresser for a whole year before we went overseas this year. It was just one of the ways to save a bit. My hair was a bit lot neglected!

I made sure that I added colour before I went, and it was lovely to walk out and feeling that I have outsmarted age, if only for that day!

I think I have found my hairdresser!

Wordless Wednesday #251 - Dance hair

I am going to miss them while I am in Cape Town

I am going to a conference in the Cape on Saturday! I can't wait!
We do not get these opportunities very often, and I am really feeling very VERY lucky!

I am passionate about attending conferences, and I love Cape Town.
We definitely don't go there as much as I would like. (Cape Town is on my bucket list - anything and anywhere that's Cape Town).

But I don't like leaving Little Missy and the eldest behind. (The ambivalence of being a working mother.)
I know that Hubby will be there to handle it, and he will do it very good! He also supports me all the way! (Thanks Hubby)
The eldest will be shadowing as well as part of her practicals, and an aunt will cover it! (Thanks to family!)

I am going to miss them!

Slush Puppy blues

We have summer here!
We jumped pass Spring right into Summer!

This past weekend was back to outdoors and cool ice drinks and braais outdoors.

Little Missy was extremely excited to discover that one of our favourite places now offer Slush Puppies as well. She had two of those while we were waiting for a haircut on Saturday.

Her second haircut went really well, and the hair is definitely more manageable!

But Little Missy got a stomach bug, and kept us busy through Saturday night and early Sunday morning. We suspect it might have been the Slush Puppies (Bad mother for buying the second one), and today she is is still not feeling 100%.

Luckily she could stay with Dad today! And sleep it off!

I get instructed to take a video or a photo when Little Missy wants to see something from the back.
I have to take what I can get, because I do not get that many poses for the camera any more...

Wordless Wednesday #200 - Random

Update

It has been crazy here. I think everyone has the same experience, with all the end-of-the-year finals and stuff coming up.

We have only the Little One to sort, and we have to decide on which overlapping event to attend!

I have been busy working on a presentation, which kept me busy for a month (at least). I was cursing and stressing about having said yes, but it all went well in the end. 

It is sometimes necessary to accept some challenges! It helps to become not too complacent. Although you wonder about your own sanity, and why it is necessary to rattle your own complacent little box, while you are stressing out big-time!

I completed my first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) before that, and it also took up a lot of my time. I am definitely going to do more of these. It is free!

Little Missy is busy as well! She never stops practising the hand stands and roll-overs and ... Any kind of movement she thinks of doing next! She is moving up to the bigger class at gymnastics on Saturday, which is also going to be a change for her!

I have to conjure a different hairstyle for her each day! The previous week she had a tantrum about wanting curly hair. At six o'clock in the morning I had to make her hair curl! (Mothers can do anything!)

For the nerds/geeks here: I finally upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 7, and I am loving it! I was contemplating chucking the thing, and all of a sudden it's got a new life! 

I am teling everybody I know about it, and somewhere someone must share my enthusiasm!?

A certificate of bravery for a first haircut

Little Missy had her first haircut on Friday last week. She is 4 years and 4 months.

We love her long hair, but it has become unmanageable, with lots of tears when trying to comb out the tangles each day.
I have to plait her hair each night before she goes to bed. If not, we have to get rid of lots of mouse nests (as we call it) in the mornings.

We walked into Maddy Magoo (by Kids Emporium) on the West Rand (at Papachinos), and they could help us immediately.

We decided on the first cut haircut package, which includes a certificate of bravery, a lock of hair, and before and after photos on a disc. I am a sucker, but it is really very cute!

Sitting upright got a bit of an ordeal!

The certificate of bravery should go to the hairdresser! The hairdresser had to go the extra mile to keep her sitting still, and that was only for a straight line cut! Also for taking photos. We got a disc of 15 photos, also one of her standing with mom and dad, with the new haircut!

The certificate should also go to the parents; for being a bit emotional about the first haircut and the first locks lying on the floor.

She looks grown-up already!

Her hair looks thicker, and it is definitely a better experience in the mornings!
It was worth it!

Hair brushing has become a breeze

The Toddler's hair has not been cut yet. This time around we decided not to cut a fringe. A fringe needs to be cut regularly and we always had a skew fringe when the first-born was small...

It has been a lot less effort without the fringe...

But the hair brushing each morning was an exercise in torture. Torture for the toddler and for me having to inflict it!

Hair bow and a beanie for the Princess

I won hair bows and a beanie on Tanya Kovarsky's blog Dear Max! It is the super cute products from Sweet 'n Sassy Bows.

It looks great adorable super super cute in the Toddler's hair!

She was so excited when I gave her the "present".
"You bought it for me, Mom?" (Jy my koop spesiaal?)
"Yes, I bought it for YOU!" (It impresses the Toddler tremendously when we buy stuff for her. I scored a lot of points with my daughter last night! ;-) )

First photo: Mieka with all the hair bows stuck in the beanie. Even the flower is a bow, which can be swopped to give the beanie a new look, or the bows can be worn on its own in the hair.

The toddler – shoes and fluff of hair

No 2 shoes

I am busy going through the toddler’s cupboard. I am amazed at how much clothes we have accumulated since birth. And now I have to throw it out again... (I am a bit of a hoarder, and struggle to get rid of things.)

There are so many beautiful, cute, pretty clothes for a little girl. And she’s outgrown them already. I absolutely love the little shoes. The photo is of all her number two shoes. She is wearing number three shoes at the moment.

The fluffs of hair

Mieka’s hair is growing. At long last! She was a little "Kojak" for very long. But now we struggle with the fluff of hair at the back of her head. Most of the time it is tangled and looks like a nest made by a mouse or something! Even if you comb it, if you look again, it is all fluffed up again. Luckily it is growing very fast!
