Sunday winter walk in the park
The park lost a lot of its glamour when looking at photos of a walk in the park during the summer months...
But we still had a lot of fun walking with our two dogs.
(Shame, we don't do it enough. The one got the jitters when she saw her leash, and howled all the way on our way to the park.)

A Sunday winter afternoon - at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens
I don't know why we haven't been going to the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens on a more regular basis.
It is one of those places where you go to when you feel you need to get a breather in nature.
When you are feeling stuck in suburbia...
This afternoon was a bit chilly, but it was lovely soaking in some sun.
We will be coming back!

Pretville visit
The Pretville movie set is still up at Hartebeesportdam, and well worth a visit.
Pretville is an Afrikaans film musical that is set in the 1950's.
It was a rainy day yesterday, with lots of mud, but it did not deter anybody, and afterwards we heard that it is much better than going there than when it is too hot!
There are tons of photo opportunities for snap happy patrons.

Definitely a place to take a photo |

The detail in each of the little shops is amazing (like this AlphaPharm Pharmacy) |

I hear that they are going to break it down in about a month, which would be very sad.
It was like going back into the past...

"Mountain climbing" at the Botanical Gardens
I think she got the idea from us after our visit to Cayley Lodge in the Drakensberg mountains. We did a bit of hiking with her, and after that she was hooked...
We took her to one of our favourite spots nearby: The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. There is a steep hike next to the waterfall to a lookout on top of the black eagles' nest.
Going up went very well! Much better than I thought she would do for her first time, and she walked most of the way.
She even wanted to carry on walking on the walking trial when we got on the hill top ...
Going down was a bit more daunting, and she had to be carried for most of the way.
The Toddler loved it!
This is still one of my favourite spots for a Sunday afternoon!
You will definitely find us here when we want to take a breather in nature. Especially since it is just around the corner!

Weekend of three
The student had to stay in for the weekend at the university, so we had a weekend with the Toddler only.
We missed her, but luckily the holidays are right around the corner...
It started with a braai....
The last gymnastics before the holidays.

We discovered Primi Life at Lifestyle which has a lovely play area for children.
Sunday was spent in the beautiful Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.
We saw the eagles, and breathed a bit of fresh air.
I don't know why we don't come here more often, it is so beautiful!

A walk in the park
It's possible, even in Johannesburg!
We went to a nearby park we have always just passed by, and it turned out to be a great place for a Sunday afternoon walk.
I remember the excitement of going to a park in our childhood years... The swings and the open field of grass.... Pure joy!
The Wilgeheuwel Park turns out to be much nicer than my childhood parks we used to go.
I Googled it and apparently it was built in a day as part of an "Extreme Park Makeover" project to bring "new environmental zones to busy developments".
I would not go and swing my valuables, but it seems very safe, and the dogs had a great outing as well!
Joburg, I'm impressed!
