Peace Concert - what a surprise!

When do you still get a concert with great names for free? If it sounds too good to be true...?

Well, it wasn't! It was amazing!

The Peace Concert stems from an independent organization Peace Starts that promotes International Day of Peace on 21 September. The tickets are for free. All you need to do is sign up for it. (Watch out for this next year!) It is really worth it!

It was held at the beautiful Heia Safari, and we were welcomed by buck and giraffe driving into the ranch. (We will definitely be coming back here!)

The music was superb, with  Josie Field, WonderBOOM, Prime Circle and Andra being some of my favourites!

The morning started off being chilly, but we could not do without an umbrella. Hubby drove back to fetch ours.

Friday is a big bonus after a week of concerts

It has been a very looooong week!

We have been busy with getting the little one ready for five concerts. She had to have her make-up on and locks in her hair. It has been daunting for me. (I am not a very good make-up person, or a hair person...) Little Missy was sleeping with silk stockings in her hair each night. I am very proud I got her looking concert-ready, five times in a row!

We had a function on Tuesday, and the other nights were spent at the school. I feel wasted!
I don't know how the teachers must feel? I can only imagine!
(We only had to sort one little person!)

We also had a great view of the concert. NOT!
We will have to wait for the DVD to see how the garden fairy ballerinas really performed. But it looked cute from the distance. (Little Missy is the one on the left, at the back-end of the queue...)

We are very grateful that the concert was on for only 45 minutes, and that each group got one item to perform! A big thumbs-up to the school for keeping it short!

Concerts done and dusted for this year!

Thank you, Friday! We are welcoming you with open arms.

Wordless Wednesday #199 - Garden fairy waiting for the school concert to start

Hooked on Ballet

I like to take the Toddler to a ballet concert at least once a year. She enjoys it soooo much, and I think she gets an idea of what it is all about!

This year we had tickets for a show, and the show got cancelled a week before the time.

Luckily a friend of mine told me about their children's end-of-year concert of the Dance School Hooked on Dance.

Leigh-Anne Gorrie, the Principal Dance Mistress, presented a whole show with her fledgling and more advanced dancers in different genres of dance styles.

The littlest ones were once again the stars of the show. These two twins (on the right) had us laughing smiling about their antics on stage.

We had a Toddler enthralled!
With a regular chirp-in: "Where's Cara?" and "There's Cara!" (one of the friends in the show)


It definitely inspired our Toddler, because she has been commanding us to sit down countlessly to watch our Toddler dance at home...

A tantrum because I did not watch 100%

Next year I will definitely make a more concerted effort to get us tickets for a ballet show.

Concert done and dusted!

I don't know how the teachers do the yearly concerts...

They must have years and years and years of patience, to pull of the miracle of getting pre-primary children to sit quietly for longer than a hour.

The Toddler also got fed-up with all the daily practice for the concert, and did not want to go to school anymore.

Sigh of relief! They had the last day on Friday last week. The parents had their concert, and the grandparents on the Friday final.

I went to fetch the Toddler earlier, and while I was busy getting her stuff together, I heard the following in her class:

Teacher: "YOU WILL GO SIT DOWN NOW!"

"YOU WILL SIT DOWN IN ANY CHAIR YOU CAN FIND!"

"YOU WILL START EATING YOUR FOOD AND NOT BOTHER ME WHEN I TALK SO SOMEONE!"

I did not see who the poor offending child was, and I felt sorry for him/her.

The very mild-mannered soft-spoken teacher (or so I thought!) had had enough!

I can't blame her, but maybe it is good the end of year is around the corner?

I went away quietly...

Wordless Wednesday #101 - Concert Angel

The toddler's first concert

The toddler was on stage in her first concert on Saturday. The day care is busy with their yearly concert shows.

It is very cute watching the little ones. We were focused on our toddler, as were the other parents on theirs...  But all the children are a pleasure to watch!

Our toddler gave us some inclination of the dances and songs before the time. It is hands and arms and going down with her bum to the ground... I also now understand her fascination with the moon. Their songs are “I see the moon” and “Blinkoog sterretjie” (Shiny Star).

The toddler went into a small little jiggle every now and again on stage, and remembered sometimes to put up her hands. She also did a lot of clapping of her hands. We were amazed at how they got the whole group of children to stay in one spot the whole time. Impressive!

When a song was finished, we heard the familiar “Klaar!” (Finish!) That was our toddler!

We are still waiting for the photos and the DVD, and I will post a photo later. We did not see as much as we could have, because I took a bit too long before I bought the tickets.  That meant we were stuck at the back in the middle. And there are over zealous parents who had their cameras and video recorders up in front of us... (Waiting for that DVD now!)
