Disney Pixar celebrate teens and their big feelings with new movie Turning Red - In theatres from Friday, 11 March 2022

Miss Fine and I watched Turning Red this previous weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the awkwardness of the teen years being explored in the change of Mei Lee to a literal big red panda. We had such a smile at the mother Ming running around when she thought her daughter had her first period, and the total embarrassment of Mei Lee by all of this. Especially when Ming turned up at school. Another "smother" at work, big time!

"The movie introduces Mei Lee, voiced by Rosalie Chiang, a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, voiced by Sandra Oh (ex Grey’s Anatomy), is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for a teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever her emotions get the better of her (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!"

The movie also features an original song ‘Nobody Like U” written by Billie Eilish and Finneas. It's on our playlist now. 👍

The movie is a great watch for both parents and children, as it explores a wonderful cheerful look into the lives and relationships between parents and their teenagers. Also the awkwardness of coming-of- age and teenagers exploring their own place in the world! We also loved the introduction to Chinese culture and the wonderful rich history that comes with it. A wonderful explorative look into identity and each one's place in the world.

We give it 4/5 for great entertainment for the whole family!

Mark this movie for your holiday cinema treat.
